Dear Bernardo Yorba Families,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year.  I am pleased to begin my second year as BYMS PTA President and grateful to again be working with a wonderful group of volunteers on our PTA Executive Board. These volunteers dedicate their time and expertise to help bring academic, administrative, and school community support to the students and families at Bernardo Yorba Middle School and we thank them for their service.

PTA appreciates all the parent support at registration. We had many families join the PTA, purchase Matador Cards and decals, and return volunteer forms. The PTA motto is “every child, one voice”.  Membership is open to anyone who believes in the mission and purposes of Parent Teacher Association.  Every person who joins a local PTA automatically becomes a member of both the state and national PTAs. Visit www.pta.org for more information and membership benefits.

If you have not yet joined the PTA and would like to, please stop by the office to pick up a membership envelope or use the one in your registration packet and help our efforts to support our school. Membership is only $10 per person and this contribution is tax deductible. While we appreciate any time you are able to commit, it is not necessary to volunteer to become a PTA member.

If you are looking to become involved, our Executive Board of volunteers is looking for parents to support the following committees:

  • Health Office Coordinator - works with school nurse to coordinate volunteers to help in the nurse’s office
  • Special Education Liaison - volunteer would work with teachers to ensure PTA knows of and understands their needs for educational support.
  • Uniforms - help sell uniforms on campus when needed.
  • Matador Cards - contact current businesses that are featured on our card and arrange for new ones as needed. This position will start in the spring and put together the 2012-2013 Matador Card.
  • Office Volunteer Coordinator - coordinate a schedule of volunteers to work in the office once per month for staff lunches.
  • Newsletter - create school newsletter to distribute and post online.
  • Advocacy / Legislation - this Board position would be a tremendous help to our school community by being the bridge between National, State, and Local legislation and our school community.

Thank you again for your support and I am looking forward to an outstanding year. If you have any questions or concerns regarding PTA and its activities, please feel free to contact me at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 714-779-5808.
